Christopher S. Morris, Founder, Morris Law Firm, APC



After attending the University of California, San Diego, Christopher S. Morris graduated from San Diego State University in 1989 where he played on the 1987 national championship rugby team.  He graduated from Brigham Young University Law School in 1992.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Mr. Morris immediately went to work for the San Diego City Attorney’s Office.  Starting out as a prosecutor, Mr. Morris transferred to the civil division and for almost 10 years defended the City and its employees in complex litigation ranging from civil rights cases to complex construction disputes.

Under former City Attorney Mike Aguirre, Mr. Morris served as the Head of the Criminal Division, overseeing the prosecution of the over 30,000 misdemeanor cases the City Attorney’s Office filed each year.

In 2008, Mr. Morris left the City Attorney’s Office for private practice.  As a principal in the law firm of Aguirre, Morris & Severson, LLP, Mr. Morris handled all types of litigation including class actions, lender liability, financial fraud, professional malpractice , personal injury and criminal defense matters.

In May 2014, Mr. Morris started his own firm specializing in all types of litigation.

Chanell A. Kachi, Associate, Morris Law Firm, APC



Originally from San Diego, Ms. Kachi attended the University of San Diego and received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science while minoring in Peace and Justice Studies with an emphasis on Conflict Resolution. She received her law degree in 2011 from California Western School of Law where she was on the Dean’s List from 2009-2010.

 Ms. Kachi became a certified law clerk with Aguirre, Morris & Severson LLP in 2010 and later became an associate attorney at the firm. Ms. Kachi’s litigation experience includes all phases of trial, from successfully briefing and arguing motions, through discovery, and trial or favorable settlement. She has represented clients in federal and state courts and in mediation.

In May of 2014, Ms. Kachi left Aguirre, Morris & Severson with Christopher Morris to become an associate attorney at Morris Law Firm, APC. At Morris Law Firm, APC, Ms. Kachi’s practice includes contract disputes, lender liability and medical malpractice.

Byron K. Husted, Of Counsel, Morris Law Firm, APC


Of Counsel

Upon graduating from Brigham Young University in Corporate Finance and Business Management, Mr. Husted attended the University of Nebraska College of Law. In 2010, he earned his Juris Doctorate and moved back to his home town of San Diego to continue practicing law in the areas of estate planning and trust/civil litigation.

Mr. Husted recently joined Morris Law Firm, APC bringing his passion and experience in the areas of probate, trust and estate litigation. He believes in aggressively advocating for his clients and always places their needs and goals first above all else. He also has experience representing clients in both federal and state courts. Mr. Husted’s main goal in working with his clients is to reach positive outcomes while creating lifelong relationships.

Michael A. Hernandez, Of Counsel, Morris Law Firm, APC


Of Counsel

Michael Hernandez is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with an emphasis in American Law and Jurisprudence.

He studied law at the University of San Diego, and he participated in the law school’s Immigration Defense Clinic providing immigration services to low-income clients.  In 2003, Mr. Hernandez was the university’s sole recipient of the Hon. Gerald Brown Progress Award.

Upon graduation Mr. Hernandez worked at a boutique immigration law firm, where he specialized in deportation defense (i.e. cancellation of removal), asylum, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) claims, and appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).

In 2004, Mr. Hernandez opened his own practice focusing on adult and juvenile criminal defense and appeals.  He has since expanded his practice to include asset forfeiture and select civil matters.  During the past decade he as litigated in state and federal courts, and he has successfully argued before the California Court of Appeal.

Mr. Hernandez is a member of the San Diego Criminal Defense Bar Association, and sits on the Board of Governors for California Attorneys for Criminal Justice.

Kimberly J. Rugama, Office Administrator, Morris Law Firm, APC


Office Administrator

Ms. Rugama is the office administrator for Morris Law Firm, APC.  Ms. Rugama is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the office, including financial management, nonlegal staff management, space and facilities management and communication with firm management.  She is also responsible for providing administrative leadership for the office.

Ms. Rugama was raised in San Diego and is a seasoned professional with over 15 years of experience in law firm management with an emphasis in financial management.  Prior to joining Morris Law Firm, APC Ms. Rugama’s legal administrator experience comes from several prominent AV rated law firms.
